The Giant Swing 

As I got put into the harness, I could feel my heart skip a beat. Twice. "Okay, are you ready Danielle?" "Yeah, I guess. "I could hear people behind me, cheering me on and talking to their peers. I could see the ground getting further and further away. "Are you ready, Danielle?" "Yes!" "3,2,1..." I could feel my adrenaline kick in so quickly. I could sense a pit in my stomach. After a while, I started slowing down. I could taste my saliva coming back into my mouth. I could smell the air coming back to my face. I wonder if I could go again? Can I?

Student Reflection: In my writing, one of my goals is: To use complex sentences. I did/did not show this goal here because.. My complex sentence: As I got put into the harness, I could feel my heart skip a beat. Twice. In my writing, one of my goals is to: To use interesting or technical vocabulary. I did/did not show this goal here because.. I did not use technical vocabulary because I did not use expressions. My next step is: To use more punctuation and use more vocab words. Teacher Comment: Danielle, I like the way that you have asked lots of questions to make the reader feel nervous. You have used show not tell in your descriptive writing by using the five senses and creating a clear picture. Your next step is to add more vocab such as adjectives to add effect. Miss Hurley

Week 9 Reflection

What is something you are proud of or have found interesting in your learning recently?

- Something that I found interesting this week is my maths group because we have been
learning how to read measurements and how to see the right measurements.

What is something you need to work on in your learning and why?

- Something I have to work on is my writing because when we were writing 23 degrees
and 5 minutes it took me some time to listen to what they say to write my story.

Our Tōtara goal has been Responding Appropriately, what does this mean to you?

- Responding appropriately means to respond with respect and kindness instead of
responding rudely and without kindness.

How can you show Responding Appropriately?

- I can show Responding Appropriately by not moaning to my parents when they ask me
to tidy my room or doing the dishes or putting the dishes away.

What is your favourite photo and why? I think my favourite photo would be the worm's eye view because it looks very creative and it looks very funny like I'm amazed.

What image worked the best and why? I think the bird's eye view looked very professional and very talented.

Choose a photo and explain why you chose this subject: I choose extreme close up because we chose to do the shoe and it looks so cool!

What is the story behind the images? What feelings/emotions did you create? The feelings behind long shot is how long it could be.

What would you change? I wouldn't change anything because all the pictures are all so creative and funny

WAINUI CAMP, 2018

What is your best memory of Tōtara camp?

- My best memory of camp was doing a skit with our activity groups. We did the skit with Kirsten. Our skit was: All of us were brought up in an orphange, and that night we were just playing around when it was time for bed. We all didn't want to go to bed, but we had to. Once we were all on bed, Kirsten decided to go to bed as well. About 5 seconds later, Onnie, had to go wee. She asked all of us if we could go with her, we all were disgusted and said no. After she had asked all of us, Kirsten told all of us to tell Onnie that she has to wait until morning, but she couldn't. So we all went down the line and told her that she had to go now. Kirsten finally gave in and that Onnie could go. So, Onnie tumbled all over us. And then we had to hit her with out pillows. It was funny! The twist was Onnie tumbling over us, it actually kind of hurt.

What challenged you on camp and how did you get through this challenge?

- What challenged me on camp was Abseiling. When it was my turn to have a go, once I got to the middle of the tree, I said to Georgia (our instructor) I didn't want to do it anymore. Georgia told me if I take one big climb up the tree, I was allowed to go down if I wanted to. So I toke one more step, and I told her I didn't want to do it and wanted to come down, so Georgia told me to lower myself down the tree. Everyone congradulated me on trying my best and Kirsten said I was brave and that if I wanted to have another go I could but I didn't want to.

How did you show Active Listening on camp and why was it important?
I showed active listening by listening to my teachers and instructors to know what I have to do, or where my group is going. Another thing is, I also showed active listening by asking for help if I didn't understand it or I did not hear what they heard so I new what I was doing.

Dear Mr Hipkins,

My name is Danielle Arps and I am a student at Kaiapoi North School. Every school thinks that you are the best Minister of Education the whole of New Zealand has ever had.

In the classrooms 20, 21 and 22, it is getting really hot and stuffy so that I can’t concentrate on my work. It is also hard to decide what to do!

It is also annoying because I hate the fact that I get really angry when I’m hot. So, what I’m trying to say is, if we get air conditioners in our classroom, it would make us all feel refreshed and ready to start a new day!

Will you please help us cool down by putting air conditioners in the classrooms? Putting air conditioners in the classroom would make Kaiapoi North School the best school ever!

Tōtara Weekly Reflection Term: 1   Week: 2

Some work I am proud of… (add evidence and a brief explanation)

The work I am proud of is getting my a ball about me done and getting it put up on the wall just in time. And something else is being able to solve a maths problem and it ended up being right which made me believe in myself and I tried another one, but even though I got it wrong, I tried again.

What challenged me over last two weeks?

Something that challenged me over the last two weeks was probably the maths challenge because I'm not very good at maths but luckily my Dad is and he helped me with the problems which got me the first maths challenge correct!

How did I overcome these challenges or what do I need to do to overcome them in the future?

How I overcame this challenge is I asked for help and my parents helped me with the maths challenge and even though I got the first bit wrong by myself, Dad helped me get it right!

What is my personal goal for next week?

My personal goal next week is to try to get the maths challenge right all by myself without help and ask my Mum or Dad to see if it is right but if it's not, they will help me get it right!

All About Me - Term 1

Who is in my family/whanau? In my family I have my Mum, Dad, Cousins, Uncles, Aunties and some of my friends feel like family too so them as well.

What are my favourite things to do in my own time? Some of my favourite things to do in my own time is read, watch movies, family time, hanging out with friends, relax, pet my kitties and play on my tablet.

What do you like to do at school? What I like to do at school is learn new things and laugh with friends all day.

What would I like to improve and make progress with this year? What I'd like to improve on this year is to get better at maths and learn to spell harder and longer words.

What helps you learn? Something that helps me learn is working with people that I can work well with and also moving away from my friends that are to loud.

What stops you learning? Something that stops me from learning is probably getting distracted by friends that I don't work well with and the people who talk loud.

Who are my friends at school? What was the best part of the holidays? Probably the best part of the school holidays was going to Malborough Sounds with my grandparents it was fun!
